Camp Adder // November 20, 2005
Well here we are and doing well!! Camp Adder is proving to be a great place to minister.
I’ll tell you this, it certainly does not hold a candle to the excitement at Striker! (Now, realize that I say that tongue-in-cheek and I am glad that it’s that way here) The unit is no less busy than they were up there – its just that the area we are in is a bit quieter and that is nice.
The flip side is that there are a lot of chaplains here and I am experiencing what being a chaplain is like back in the States. You have to learn to share. Yeah, share. Its kinda weird to go from being the only one at the 410 Chapel to having a service that I share with several chaplains. Its not bad – just different.
I am the worship leader for the Contemporary service now. That should prove to be a blast. I am gathering a group of good musicians around me and so far so good. I believe that before long, we will have a great band going.
You know what feels odd? My mouth. It seems that one of the lasting conditions so far from my accident is that the muscle in my mouth contracted and now I can only open my mouth a little bit. Like I can open it just wide enough to put in my index finger. That’s not very big. Makes eating kinda hard. I have to cut everything up into very small, flat chunks. It does not hurt to chew any more, I just am limited to what I have room for in my mouth to actually chew. And singing!! That’s really weird!! I am used to opening my mouth wide – really wide – in order to sing. Now, I kinda sing out the side of my mouth and (to me) my voice sounds kinda funny. I suppose to others that have never heard me, it doesn’t, but I am acutely aware of how odd it feels and sounds. I’m sure it’ll open up over time.
Did you know…
The house of Abraham is here? Some of the oldest structures in the world have been discovered here. I have yet to go and see them but I can see the Ziggurat every morning when I do PT. Its pretty cool. I look forward to going on a tour soon.
That’s what we’ve got so far!!
Blessings!
Chaplain Fisher,
We are very happy here to get to know you are getting better each day. You are able to eat, even having to cut your food into tiny pieces. Oh, and it does not hurt anymore which is wonderful. Praise be the Lord. We are celebrating that you are back to work as you so deeply wanted and now a new challenge has come along. That is, sharing your ministry with some other chaplains. It seems God has been preparing you for your next step. We are very happy that you have been given the chance to sing again as the worship leader. That is great news.Your mouth muscles are not yet ready for everything; however, sing with all your heart for that is what matters. Your voice will be back in time. Your heart is ready though and that is what counts. Praise the Lord with all your heart and may God bless your leading the band and help your bringing the His loving presence .Hey, and lucky you! You can see the Ziggurath from where you are...awesome! And you are near Abraham's house...what a blast! Enjoy these moments and may Jesus speak deeply in your heart while you see these sights that bring you back to the roots of our faith. We are praying for you. A mom.
correct me if i'm wrong, mr fisher...
but isnt an adder a venomous snake?
or possibly nonvenomous, but either way that's semi-frigtening.
take care of yourself.

Well...yeah...it would seem that there are some around here. I stay on the pavement as much as I can...
I think that it's great that so many men and women are brave and honoralbe in serving their country. I am proud to be an American Soldier's Wife. I am grateful to have all those who fight for and defend freedom and justice and for their and their families sacrifices in doing so. God Speed their journey home safely into the arms of their loved ones!
