And now... in the "you have got to be kidding me" realm.... its the "Left Behind" Video Game // December 4, 2006

Wow. You know, I usually am kind of "whatever" about things like this but when I saw this I just about had a kniption fit. Its the "Left Behind Video Game." Yeah, you heard it here first - this is a game, and I kid you not, where you can choose to be part of the "Tribulation Force" (God's team) OR (for the bold) the "Global Community Peacekeepers" headed by none other than Nichole Carpathia the (you guessed right) Antichrist.

Again. Wow. You've got to be kidding me. I feel like I am reading about some kind of spoof or a parody, but I'm not. I am reading about a legitimate attempt to sell theology wrapped up in an adventure/strategy game. Check out some quotes from the creators:

Some of the game's objectives:
· Conduct physical & spiritual warfare : using the power of prayer to strengthen your troops in combat and wield modern military weaponry throughout the game world.
Exciting!

· Command your forces through intense battles across a breathtaking, authentic depiction of New York City
WOW!

· Control more than 30 units types - from Prayer Warrior and Hellraiser to Spies, Special Forces and Battle Tanks!
Sweet - this takes the "Sword of the Lord" to a whole new level!

· Play multiplayer games as Tribulation Force or the AntiChrist's Global Community Peacekeepers with up to eight players via LAN or over the internet!
Nice. So, I can be the bad guy and do what? Kill Christians? I'm lost here. So... I have some suggestions for some upcoming games - keeping with the Christian Persecution Theme:

"Rome: The Nero Years - Christians to the Lions!"
How 'bout - (for the Protestants among us) "Torquemada - Huntin' Heretics"
Maybe we could just get into persecution in general "The Puritans: Burn 'em in Salem"

Seriously.

Pleas understand, I have spoken quite a bit with tongue firmly in cheek here and I don't believe that the creators of the game sincerely want the youth of this nation to be persecuting Christians in a game. However, if you can be a peacekeeper on the side of the Anti-Christ - thats exactly what you are doing! THAT I have a problem with!

Why can't the game be one where you have to make the right decisions as you map you way through the labyrinth of the Tribulation? Something along the line of Zelda?

This commercialization of Christianity saddens me mostly. It saddens me that we live in a world where the Christians are the ones creating the games about hunting themselves down and fighting to kill. Are there not enough of those kinds of games already?

Blessings and Peace.

I know right... what do you say to that....

It doesn't surprise me to be honest. If computer games designers can make "shoot-'em-ups" based during the world wars then a game killing Christians really isn't that surprising.
