Captain... Finally // August 5, 2007
So, I finally got promoted. It was a long road. In the Guard, it takes a lot longer to get promoted than on active duty. Basically, because of the Civilian Education and ministry experience that a chaplain brings to the Army - they are given 18 Months time in grade automatically upon entry into service. This means that within six months of your commission, you are promoted to Captain. This is not the case in the Guard. There, you have to serve your 2 years before the mast before you are promoted to Captain no matter how much education you have. So, even though I have spent two years on Active Duty, I still had to wait for my promotion. I have now been in the Army for three years, and finally, it came down. last Tuesday, I went to work a 1LT and left a CPT. It was just one of those good days.
LTC McCorkle was on hand to speak on my behalf, my father was in attendance via the cell and Sara did the "pinning." It was just a great feeling to get the rank I had been working in for the last two years. Though, it did have its good moments... nothing like being able to look at someone blankly and ask the dumb question. After all, I was just a 1LT...
Now, there will be no more, "soooo, I've never seen a Lieutenant chaplain before...
they have those?"
Congrats, man. Good to see you serving God faithfully.
Congratulations! Keep up the good ministry in that vital mission field.
