Permanent Change of Station (PCS) // September 27, 2007
At long last, the Army has seen fit to tell me where my next duty station is. I was selected for Active Duty (Its funny that I had to go through the whole board process like any recruit. I have been on Active Duty (in a mobilized status) for over two years now...).
Since then, Sara and I have been bracing ourselves for the inevitable news that we are headed for one of the major combat installations (Fts, Drum, Campbell, Hood, Bragg...) and that I would be deploying in less than six months. I had convinced myself that was going to be the case.
Yesterday we found out where we were going... I am not deploying...
I had taken it upon myself to contact the Assignments Officer for the chaplain corps and express to him my skill, gifts and talents. I told him I loved the training environment and would love to stay in that kind of environment.
I never dreamed it would actually be taken to heart but it was and yesterday I was told that I am headed to Fort Leonard Wood, MO to be a Basic Training Battalion chaplain!!!
VERY EXCITING!!
Biggest excitement?
Non-deployable for three years!!!
Of course, this is the Army, so it could all change tomorrow, but I'm choosing to not dwell on that. For now, I am just pumped to have this job!
Incidentally, it was not ANYWHERE on my dream sheet (this is the form that we fill out that says where we would like to go - I had chosen Ft. Stewart, Ft. Knox, and Ft. Campbell in that order) soooo... here we come Missouri!!!
We PCS in February.... nice...

Hooah. My first chaplain assignment was 3-10 IN, a basic training battalion at Lost in the Woods. It was a great place to serve and a great place to raise a family. I hope you'll love it as much as we did.
The ministry is wonderful. Soldiers stand in line to line to talk to you. The chapel is packed every Sunday. Enjoy.
Welcome to the Regular Army.

Congratulations...I'm very happy for you and Sara.
Kind of Bummed - As I know Andrew would have loved for youto stay at Ft. Stewart!! But glad to hear they are keeping you on to do what you love!!!!
Blessing and well wished all the way around!
Lori
We are delighted you are headed to Missouri. Beautiful country down in the Ozarks. Ike Skelton has done a great job in keeping that base up to date. 2 hours or so south of Greg, Janet, Tommy and soon to arrive Jacob and 4 hours or so from Grandma Fisher. We hope you like it.
Blessings,
Jeff
Awesome! I was just at Ft. Wood a week ago for a Chaplain Recruiting event. I got to meet several of the chaplains and commanders you may be working with. Very good people.
I'll have to come see you and Sara. Springfield isn't very far from there.
