Running in Rural Indiana // October 21, 2007
Hear the Podcast!!
I suppose its not actually rural - but it certainly feels like it...
We've made it up to Camp Atterburry, IN for the training we are doing next week. We have been given the honor and task of training up the 76th IBCT for war. (At least our Brigade has been given that task, we've been given the Unit Ministry Team training piece...) If it sounds like a huge mission, it is. We are giving these guys what knowledge we (the 188th UMT) have gained in our collective experience. Up to this mission, we have only been in support of other missions. We have been "Combat Counterparts" - mentors that come alongside of the deploying UMT and give them the support they need as they go off into the Sandbox. This time, we are the lead. Incidentally, if you are looking to support a Unit Ministry Team while they are deployed - shoot me an email and I will hook you up with one of their UMTs.
I'm excited, I think we're going to have a great time. I confess I'm a little nervous, but at the end of the day, I'm sure it'll turn out like all the other training we've done - we'll find we won't want to leave...
I would go up and see my in laws - My father-in-law pastors a church in Remington IN not too far from here, but I'm stuck at the mercy of one Government vehicle so here I sit.
I'm loving it here. I just got back in from a long run (6 miles through the countryside) and it was worth every mile! In fact, it was so beautiful, I actually turned off my nano and just listened to the cows, the dogs, the wind rustling through the corn fields and the cars. Well, yeah... there were alot of cars. Who knew there were this many cars in Indiana?
At least the dogs were normal and behind a fence! Here I am, way out in the sticks and what dogs there were lived in very large fenced in areas and just barked at me... no attacking yappers! What a novel concept! I don't mean to complain, but it IS my blog so I will - in my subdivision, there are a plethora of dogs. Mean dogs. Nasty dogs. I mean, I have been bitten by dogs that were on a leash!! Every morning in GA where I run, I carry a large stick with me and still the dogs come after me. And no one seems to have heard of nice, domesticated loving animals like, spaniels, labs, retrievers, or collies - no - the average dog I see every day is either a pitbull or a rottweiler! Allow me to say this - if your dog has the ability to kill humans and the breed has a history of that kind of behavior - you can't say things like - "oh, he's just a big teddy bear!" No. He's not! He is a dog that can kill me! Or, (and I heard this in the moments after I was trying to get away from a large Rot and clean my bloody leg up so my wife would not freak out) "I don't understand - its just not like him to bite - he never bites anyone!" Except running chaplains. Go figure.
Wow, alot of animosity there. I need to explore that with my therapist...

Boy, in this comments section there's nothing but crickets chirping in the distance...
You should start randomly adding things like "Ron Paul" "Department of Homeland Security" "The Constitution"... apparently that's where interest lies, so it just might help your comments.
(example: "Up to this Ron Paul mission, we have only been in support of other Constitutional missions. We have been big government "Combat Counterparts" - mentors that come alongside of the deploying UMT and give them the libertarian support they need as they go off into the Huckabee Sandbox.")
Sara, I notice you have strayed away from comment-worthy topics on your blog as of late. What's the deal with that?
I do see how your RP-constitution-big government Mad Lib can make any post more interesting. That's how I'm going to start reading everything.
Hey stranger!
Jenni just happened to look at Sara's blog, and looked at yours and saw you were in the great Hoosier state. Southern Indiana is beautiful this time of year. We were down in Edinburgh and Nashville this past weekend. Take care, and if you need anything let me know!
Joe

Things going well? Hows the baby? shoot me an email man - we're moving to MO next... gotta love the Army...
