Ransomed Life

Chaplain (Captain) Jonathan Fisher has at one time been paid to be a high school history/religion teacher, worship leader, associate pastor, toll booth money taker, street clean-uper, prep cook, meat carver, Sears Customer Service employee, security guard at a fundamentalist college - that was just weird, singing college promoter, grounds keeping headquarters janitor, canoe handler, Christmas tree salesman, lawnmower/raker etc, Roadway Package Service Unload Employee among other various jobs. Oh, and there was that summer I worked as a manpower temp employee at a plant that recycled old alternators (I kid you not - I really did strip the guts out of old nasty alternators, sandblast the shell, tap on them with another peice of metal and put "new" recycled guts in them... and it was as dirty a job as that sounds...) and put together office furniture. Understandably, I fell asleep at the wheel and totaled my car at the end of that summer!!

Thank goodness none of those occupations define who the author is. Mostly he has been both a student and teacher, both of which he enjoys immensely! His military career includes being the Battalion Chaplain for 2/121st Infantry with whom he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III in 05-06. He currently serves as an Observer/Controller Trainer with the 188th Infantry Brigade at Ft. Stewart, GA. He trains National Guard and Reserve Unit Ministry Teams (Chaplains and their assistants) as they prepare for their own deployments to OIF (Iraq), OEF (Afghanistan) and KFOR (Kosovo - yup, we still have soldiers there!). He just received notification that he will be headed to Ft Leonard Wood, MO next!

He and his wife Sara reside in Hinesville, GA and are expecting their first child in January.
